The 2010 Festival is over for another year – and what a Festival it was!
Thank you to every one who helped to make the 36th Chichester Festivities
fantastic, special and a wonderful success.
Our thanks go to
- all the artists for their brilliant performances - in venues such as the
beautiful Cathedral, historic St John’s Chapel, the mediaeval Bishop’s
Kitchen and Vicars’ Hall and many other unique settings
- our fabulous audiences, without whom there would be no purpose, and
who created such a great atmosphere
- all festival funders, both corporate and individuals who make it all
possible.
- our volunteers for every hour spent.
The Festival’s success is down to the support you all give. Thank you.
With more than 150 events in 40 different venues, audiences of 30,000, and
17 days of glorious weather, it was a festival of serious fun and celebration!
A selection of Press Reviews and Audience Appreciation Comments
"Thank you so much for another wonderful Festivities! I just think we are so
lucky to have so much talent come to Chichester "on our doorstep" and to be
able to take advantage of it! Lesley Garrett - just FABULOUS! I felt this was
a one-off opportunity to see her "close up and personal" and the power of her
voice - what a knockout!
I also enjoyed Nicola Benedetti - and Tasmin Little was just OUTSTANDING!
Rick Wakeman was amazing. There are other events I would have liked but
couldn"t fit them all in!"
"What a fabulous time we had at the open air concert at Goodwood. Not
only were the weather, music and food good but my husband is disabled and
the free disabled parking, early access entrance and personal assistance
arrangements were outstanding. This all made the evening even more
enjoyable for myself, my husband and 11 year old daughter. Thank you again
and we look forward to seeing you again next year".
"You found yourself looking out across thousands and thousands of people,
all moving to the music as the sun went down over some of this nation’s most
gorgeous countryside. It was quite magical – a wonderful fun atmosphere
from a different era".
"Well, you did it again. I don’t quite know how each year seems better
than the last. It was a brilliant evening, which was only helped by the
weather, which I am sure, you also organised. The Spitfire, which opened
the Festivities was wonderful, and gave a lot of us "goose bumps". The
Hunter, and the "Flying Dentist" was also superb. The tribute bands were all
excellent, and, what can I say about the fireworks – I don’t think that I have
ever seen anything like it, and what a lovely way to finish with a tribute to
Michael Jackson".
"I’ve been Magnetised! I can relish quality performance in any sphere and
The Magnets have a rare blend of musicianship, movement, energy and
charisma and, in Andy Frost, the most extraordinary creator of percussive
sounds without the aid of instruments".
"The resounding singing of the Armonico Consort made their interpretation of
Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 a resounding success".
"I’m not exaggerating when I say her vocal gymnastics made the hair stand up
on the back of my neck" (about a soloist in London Community Gospel Choir
concert)
Congratulations on another fantastic Festivities! Liz and I enjoyed all the
concerts and we were delighted with the variety on offer".
"The prolonged applause confirmed that the Boston Youth Symphony
Orchestra is one of the very best groups of young musicians, ever to appear
at the Cathedral".
